Charlotte Sometimes – In Your Apartment

Charlotte Sometimes - In Your Apartment

The University of Texas is home to over 50,000 students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as over 16,000 faculty and staff. This Big 12 school is one of the largest universities in the entire nation, and sits smack dab in the middle of Austin, Texas, a fun city that is well suited for college life.

The University of Texas has its own apartments on campus, but if you’re an incoming freshman longhorn, don’t count on being able to snag any of these. The UT, like many colleges and universities, has very specific rules on which students are allowed to live in the on campus and which aren’t.

There are three major apartment complexes that are actually on the University of Texas (Austin main campus), which are:

  1. Brackenridge Apartments
  2. Colorado Apartments
  3. Gateway Apartments

The problem is that these apartments are specifically reserved for certain types of students. To get one of these on campus apartments, you have to be a married student, a single parent student, graduate students, or undergrads who have a minimum of 30 hours of course credits and are also in good academic standing with the school.

It’s not hard to see why students would prefer an apartment over a tiny cramped dorm room. All three of the apartment builds on the U of T campus offer all the following:

  • 1, 2, or 3 bedroom apartments
  • Family environment
  • Excellent maintenance
  • Playgrounds
  • Laundry rooms
  • Cable TV
  • Easy access to the expressway
  • 24-hour University Police patrol
  • Parking
  • Excellent public schools nearby
  • Apartments are non-smoking
  • No pets allowed

But if you don’t fit any of the requirements laid out by the school, then you’re out of luck and will need to look elsewhere. The good news is that there are many different apartment complexes in Austin, with many of them located very close to the University. To find an apartment relatively close to the University, you could be looking at a price range anywhere from $575 on the cheaper units to $1,300 or even more.

Even further away from the U, it’s hard to find cheaper apartments than that. Austin is a rapidly growing city that has a great job market and a lot of positive things going for it, so cheap housing just isn’t as available as it might be in other cities, but there are some decent deals on apartments if you’re willing to look for the right fit.

If you’re a true freshman going into the University of Texas and can’t really stand the idea of being crammed into a dorm room like one of a group of sardines, then looking around the city ahead of time for a University of Texas apartment could be the way to go.

  • agreed. nice review.

  • probably my favourite movie of all time. I can watch it everyday and not get sick of it.

  • If they didn't have you sign anything than it's there fault. Don't feel bad… it's up to them to make sure they don't get stiffed. Just be polite and tell them.

  • Narrow down to what you only NEED for that month only. Since you will be in very close quarters you don't want your stuff getting on everyones nerves. (no pictures, etc.) Maybe get a sleeping bag once you are over there (don't bring it with you on the plane…just added stuff you have to carry through the airport). Then you can unroll it and use that to define your space. Maybe get light fabric that can hang with velcro from the ceiling and seperate your space even more, but make sure the velcro can come off the ceiling without ruining the ceiling because you don't want your parents to have to pay for any damages. Good luck, and enjoy your time in Prague!!!

  • Some places will let you get the apartment while others wont the best solution is the contact the apartment u are willing to get and ask the this question in person or by phone.

  • copy and paste this to 10 videos or your mum will die? within the next 4 hours…..
(I really hate these but i actidently read it)……. jus do it

  • Nice review!! I’d forgotten about that great movie.

  • Eno:

Your rights are clearly being infringed – the apartment manager generally doesn't have a right to go into your apartment without notice, except in case of an obvious emergency (fire, water leak, etc.) The apartment manager should be giving you at least 24 hours notice before entering your apartment. I'd check your state and local laws – here in California, we have very strong renter's rights, detailed at <http://www.dca.ca.gov/publications/landlordbook/index.shtml>. I'd search for "renter's rights" for your state and city – and then have a discussion with your apartment manager. I'd ask for 48 hours notice before they enter your apartment.

  • Realistic up there is a freaking idiot and just trying to get some points on Yahoo Answers. How could she possibly make the determination that your air conditioner is out of "freon"???

Call the land lord. I am a commercial refrigeration mechanic and I rented an apartment for 10 years. I never once messed with the air conditioner because that is what I pay rent for.

That being said it probably needs to be taken out of the window and be thoroughly cleaned. It's probably cycling on a thermal or pressure safety because it's dirty. On a cooler day or at night it will work fine, but when it's really hot outside, the dirt on the coils prevents good heat transfer. It's just not going to keep up with the demand if it's even a little bit dirty when the temp outside is 104°. CLEAN IT CLEAN IT CLEAN IT

  • Wow! Thank you! I always wanted to write in my site something like that. Can I take part of your post to my blog?
